It has been a big week for tutocity with our last 2 tutorials making the home page of www.good-tutorials.com and one of our designs was featured on deviantart. We hope to continue our recent success with our next group of tutorials that will be releasing soon.

We are currently working on setting up a comment module for our tutorials so that we can start getting some feedback from you guys!
 
Basic Smudge Sig Tutorial

Description: In this tutorial you will learn the basics of creating a "smudge" signature aswell as some simple lighting effects.

NOTE: To be able to complete this tutorial your should have a basic knowledge of photoshop and where to find its tools.

Step 1: Open up a new photoshop file 420 pixels wide and 120 pixels high. Now search the web for an image of an explosion and place it in your file, call this layer "Original" I used this image click



Step 2: Duplicate the "Original" layer Layers > Duplicate Layer and call the new layer "Smudge 1" Select the "Smudge tool" and hit "f5" to bring up the brushes menu. Copy the settings below.









Now with the "Smudge tool" still selected just simply smudge the image around untill you get the effect that you are happy with.

TIP: When smudging try to only smudge in the same direction.

Here is how my turned out:


Step 3: Create a new layer and call it "Brighten" and set the blending mode to "overlay" Select the brush tool and choose a 200 pixel soft brush.



Now with the "Brush tool" brush small amounts in areas that you want to brighten up and make more interesting. Lower the "Opacity" untill it looks good, I set mine about 50%. This can be done with multiple layers and different brush sizes.
